At CIMS, our mission has always been to help cemeteries better serve their communities by providing intuitive, user-friendly software solutions. We’re excited to announce a significant upgrade to our public-facing Burial Search websites: enhanced accessibility features that make it easier for everyone, including those with vision impairments and colorblindness, to search for and navigate to burial sites.
Accessibility isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessity. For many of our clients, especially those in cities with strict regulations, it’s a requirement that all public-facing websites comply with the latest accessibility standards. But more importantly, it’s about ensuring that every member of the community can easily access the information they need.
Our latest update makes this possible by adhering to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2. We worked closely with an accessibility consultant to ensure our Burial Search websites meet these guidelines, offering a more inclusive experience for all users.
The new Burial Search accessibility features can be accessed by clicking the blue stick figure button on the left side of the map.
One of the key features of our new accessibility update is the ability for users to change the color palette of the interface. This is particularly beneficial for users with colorblindness or other vision impairments, as they can now select a palette that offers the best contrast and visibility for their specific needs.
In addition to customizable color options, we’ve added textures to various elements of the interface. This feature helps distinguish between different parts of the page without relying solely on color, making navigation more intuitive and accessible.
For cemeteries, these updates mean better service to the community. Families and loved ones can now search for burial sites with ease, regardless of any visual impairments they might have. This not only improves the user experience but also helps cemeteries comply with regulations that require public-facing websites to be accessible to all.
At CIMS, we understand that accessibility is an ongoing process. As technology evolves and new standards emerge, we remain committed to updating our software to meet the highest accessibility standards. This latest update is just one step in our ongoing journey to make our Burial Search websites more inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.
We’re proud of the work we’ve done to enhance accessibility, and we’re excited to see how these new features will help cemeteries better serve their communities. If you’re a cemetery interested in learning more about these updates or how CIMS can help you comply with accessibility regulations, we’re here to help. Contact us today to find out more.
