On January 11th, we rolled out CIMS 4.5, a major update designed to make CIMS Cloud easier to navigate, more efficient to use, and more powerful than ever.

A Cleaner, More Intuitive User Interface

CIMS 4.5 introduces a refreshed interface that helps users find what they need faster.

A Smarter Top Navigation Bar

The redesigned top navigation organizes tools and settings into clearer categories, including:

  • Cemetery Menu: Quick access to cemetery documents, settings, user management, and (if applicable) CIMS Ledger and QuickBooks tools.
  • History: A convenient list of the last 30 spaces you viewed.
  • Utilities: Work orders, reminders, reserved spaces, disinterred burials, map features, and more.
  • User Menu: Language settings, password changes, and personal preferences like auto‑tabbing through date fields.
  • Help Center: Direct links to tech support, the online manual, and previous update notes.

Other UI improvements include alphabetized search types, minimized modal windows, clearer date labels, and new options for expanding or interacting with map and list views.

Better Mapping Tools (CIMS Platinum)

Mapping is at the heart of CIMS, and version 4.5 brings several enhancements:

  • Level Selection via Map Click: Choose a space directly from the map to auto‑populate level information.
  • Temporary Map Markers: Add movable, resizable markers with custom text—perfect for planning, events, or temporary notes. These markers also appear in print and email versions of the map.
  • Clickable Colors in Lists: Quickly jump to a space on the map by clicking its color indicator (varies by CIMS tier).

Improved Disinterment & Re‑Interment Workflow

Handling disinterments is now more transparent and easier to manage:

  • A new “Re‑inter” button lets users select a new space (via dropdown or map click in Platinum).
  • Burial history now clearly shows interment, disinterment, and re‑interment events.
  • Burial records remain editable throughout the process.

More Efficient Daily Tasks

Several updates focus on reducing clicks and improving clarity:

  • Bulk Reminder Actions: Select multiple reminders at once to mark them complete or delete them.
  • Enhanced Remarks System: Add multiple remarks to a record, each automatically stamped with the date and user. A new search bar helps filter long remark histories.
  • Customer Record Improvements
  • Burial dates now appear directly in customer records, with a link to the burial.
  • “Birth Place” has been added as a standard field.
  • Veterans are now clearly marked with “(vet)” in lookup results.

Work Order Enhancements

Work Orders now support notes, including those from the mobile PWA version.

  • Smarter Date Inputs: Users can enable a new setting that automatically advances the cursor from month → day → year when typing dates, speeding up data entry.
  • Clearer Email Communication: All outgoing emails now include a note reminding recipients not to reply directly, but to contact their cemetery office instead.

Report & Space Management Updates

  • Military reports now include war‑related remarks.
  • Space status rules are clearer. Deeds must be removed before a space can be marked “Available.”
  • Several reports have improved formatting and accuracy.

Introducing CIMS Ledger: Built‑In Invoicing & Accounting

One of the most exciting additions in CIMS 4.5 is CIMS Ledger, a new integrated accounting tool designed specifically for cemetery operations.

With CIMS Ledger, users can:

  • Create and manage lists of services and items
  • Build a chart of accounts
  • Generate quotes and convert them to invoices
  • Link invoices to customer records, spaces, burials, and markers
  • Record payments
  • Print or email quotes, invoices, and receipts
  • Run a variety of built‑in financial reports

This is just the beginning—CIMS Ledger will continue to grow based on user feedback and evolving cemetery needs.

Bug Fixes & Performance Improvements

CIMS 4.5 includes dozens of fixes that improve reliability, accuracy, and usability. Highlights include:

  • More accurate GPS mapping
  • Better handling of ownership history
  • Improved search behavior
  • Clearer warnings for unsaved changes
  • More consistent report formatting
  • Better handling of large media uploads
  • Corrected issues with customer type switching, level renaming, and more
